This is an ultrasound examination combined with a clinical examination of the hip joints in newborns. At our facility, the examination takes place in a calm environment with a focus on gentleness and an individualized approach for each child. We use a proven “triple screening” system, which consists of three hip checks. The first check is conducted in the maternity hospital after birth, the second after six weeks, and the third when the child is three months old. In cases of abnormalities or absence of femoral bone ossification "nuclei," additional check-ups are scheduled.
The aim of this method is to obtain precise information about the anatomy and development of the hip joints in the youngest children and to detect hip dysplasia or dislocation at an early stage. Congenital hip dysplasia is a relatively common condition in our population, being diagnosed in approximately 5% of newborns. For the assessment of hip dysplasia, we use the Graf classification. Depending on the degree of dysplasia, appropriate treatment is initiated, which will be fully explained and managed by an experienced attending physician.
A diagnostic device used to assess orthopedic foot deformities. It enables a detailed evaluation of weight-bearing areas of the foot. This examination helps uncover deformities of small foot joints, the alignment, pressure, and rotation of heel bones, as well as the relationships between different parts of the foot. It evaluates both the longitudinal and transverse arches of the feet and their disorders, which are most commonly manifested as flat feet.
The podoscope consists of a glass platform with an angled mirror underneath. The patient stands on the glass, and the mirror reflects the weight distribution across different parts of the feet and identifies other possible issues. The device allows observation of the feet in a static position, revealing disproportions and asymmetry between the left and right foot. It also enables comparison of the feet and the entire musculoskeletal system, including the position of the pelvic bones and shoulders.
